PAUL VAN DER SOMMEN

OWNER/PRO

ONEONTA TENNIS CLUB

1977-PRESENT

Paul’s love for the game of tennis is the #1 reason he is still involved in the game. Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Paul moved to the United States at the age of 18 on a tennis scholarship. After college, he  opened  the Oneonta Tennis Club and played on the professional circuit for the next eight years. In his last year on the tour, Paul’s efforts were rewarded with a world ranking.

Tennis took its toll, however, and approximately five years ago, Paul had both of his knees replaced. He’s back on his game, though, and ready to get more involved in teaching juniors about how much fun tennis can be and how it is a sport that can be played for a lifetime.

This is especially  true now that his two younger daughters have grown  to  lik the game ,  he is really excited about again doing the junior camps. Paul and his son, Kevin were ranked 6th in the nation in the national father and son competition.

Paul’s experience in the game and his clear vision of what it takes to become an accomplished tennis player makes the OTC junior camps a good start for any junior.

The “camp” has limited amount of space available and full payment is required by July 1st. Juniors who are monthly members will have priority over non-members. In the other camps we will have the right to cancel the week if we have less then 10 entries.
